Newcastle man, Experienced defender: 5 players that Ipswich must target in the January transfer window

BEN MARSHALL

There will be a lot of competition for Marshall’s signature but Ipswich should be looking to see if they can do a deal.

Marcus Evans may need to dip into his pocket more than he would like to fund this signing, but it would be worth it.

The ex-Blackburn man brings a real quality on the ball and versatility too. He could play across the midfield and even as a right wing-back or right-back if needed.

He excelled under Paul Lambert at Wolves and McCarthy seems the sort of manager who would get the best out of Marshall.

RYAN LEONARD

Another signing that Ipswich would have to work hard to complete, but again Leonard would be worth it.

Sheffield United are the firm favourites to sign him, but their strict stance in negotiations when dealing with Southend could open the door for Town.

Leonard has a calmness and quality on the ball that would improve the Tractor Boys build-up play and whilst they would have to offer more than the Blades, he is out of contract in the summer so it wouldn’t be the most expensive deal.
