Another would be the prospect of continuing to play a back up role, behind Harry Kane, but Iheanacho offers something different to the England striker – and if he is optimistic, he could take the view that he could replace the Spurs star if Real Madrid prise him away.

Iheanacho has eight goals in 13 international games for Nigeria, and scored more than 20 goals for Manchester City in limited opportunities, mostly as a substitute.

If the forward is prepared to makes some financial sacrifices, Tottenham could be a very good move for him.
