Cardiff drew 0-0 with the Royals, meaning a Fulham win would have seen Neil Warnock’s side finish third, but Birmingham did the Bluebirds a major favour.
Warnock has already spoken of his desire to strengthen his squad and ensure they stay up, although they will be comforted by the fact that Newcastle United and Brighton have already secured survival and Huddersfield Town look like they might stay up too.
He wants at least five or six new additions this summer to bolster his squad.
